| bnlitin's Full Review: Yamaha RX-V995 5.1 Channels Receiver |
I bought the Yamaha RX-V995 because it has support for both Dolby Digital and DTS, plus excellent DSP and ability to drive low impedance speakers [mine are Magnaplanars MMG electrostatics (4 Ohms impedance) - the most awesome sounding speakers under $1K].
The combination of Yamaha RX-V995 with the Magnaplanar speakers and a Velodyne subwoofer is just awesome. It's excellent for music and fantastic for Dolby Digital and DTS movies.
The manual is very big and there are so many possible inputs, outputs, and adjustments that its all a little overwhelming at first.
I love the ability to set the volume of rear channel speakers relative to main speakers and the Jazz Club DSP is great too - makes it feel like being in smoky Jazz Club.
The sound is very natural and I always liked Yamaha receivers for their sound and low-impedance drive. A lot of receivers have a lot of fluffy features but not enough "clean" sound. The Yamaha RXV995 delivers in both features and sound.
