Pros: Excellent rear speakers for home theater set up!
Cons: none, ok maybe a tad bit expensive?
The Bottom Line: I would recommend the speakers for anyone with a nice surround sound set up, who enjoys movies and want crisp sound coming from their rear speakers.

| sniperxx's Full Review: Bose 201 IV Main / Stereo Speaker |
Wandering around the mall the other day, (the Misses was doing her shopping at the 1/2 year sale at Nordstroms) I decided to visit Pete at the Bose Store. I was told by Pete that the 201's were on sale. I have the 301's for my rears, so I didn't think much on the 201's being on sale.
Pete advised me that I would be surprised at the sound that the 201's generate. So, being the skeptic that I am, I did the test, (turned my back to the speakers while Pete played a jazz tune that I'm familiar with) while he switched back and forth from the 301's and the 201's.
Now these results are from my personal preference...
I really liked the highs from the 201's! Don't get me wrong, the 301's have a heck of a bass or a "full" sound that carries from the speakers. But I really did like the 201's sound better. So much in fact...I purchased a pair and replaced my 301's and put the 201's in my home set up.
(Please continue to read on...I'll explain why)
I played the movie "Armegeddon" and was surprised with the 201's. I didn't expect them to perform "better" than my 301's, but for that particular movie, they did. So to be fair, I put on the movie "Perfect Storm" (my guide to all DVD performance) and switched speakers at the scene where they are attempting to clear this large wave. The 201's had a "crisper" carry (or sound) than the 301's. But on the flip side, the 301's did have a more "even" or "full" sound...what I mean is...the crashing of the waves sounded the same when I walked to my kitchen to listen, and when I sat on my couch in my family room to listen. With the 201's, when I walked into the kitchen, I "lost" some sound, but I didn't with the 301's.
Ok...you are wondering...what is my conclusion?
I liked the 201's for the sharp sound image that I was able to hear. For movies on DVD, I prefer the 201's. But for music audio vids, in the 5.1 set up, or playing super audio CD's....the 301's with my 901 for the front speakers, and my VCS-10 for the center works best for me.
Really...it's a choice that you the consumer would have to decide. But for me, I really enjoy listening to my movies with the 201's. It's nice to be able to change the way you listen to movies or music with the change of speaker choice.
(Oh before I forget, the Misses though I was crazy buying speakers for movies and music, but I reminded her of her choice of 200 pairs of shoes!)
