Sony or Yamaha???

Pros: Dual Woofer, High mounted tweeter, & Ported Enclosure.
Cons: Simple Construction like the MF315 & 515 towers (but stylish).
The Bottom Line: If you already have or are considering the MF series towers, this is a great choice. If not, you might consider the Yamaha NS-AC40X instead.

I compared the Yamaha AC40X with this before purchasing. But getting a matching system won out.
You see at the same time I bought this center I purchased a pair of "Open Boxed" Sony MF315 towers. In comparison the Yamaha actually looks better. It has 5.25" woofers, an adjustable tweeter to match any speaker brand, and a better build quality about it, but has a $50 higher price tag. Since I was purchasing the Sony towers anyways I really didn't need the adjustable tweeter right now. And since I am on a budget the $50 was a consideration as well. In the end either would have worked, but by purchasing the Sony I am very happy and saved $50.
Once installed, I thoroughly tested it with the "Avia" dvd and a SPL meter and it matches quite well with the Sony 315 towers. My biggest surprise was the clarity of voices over my older Yamaha "component" center it replaced. My receiver power is only 80watts, so I can only atest that it handles this power level with absolutely no distortion even at high listening levels.
The Avia dvd pink generator, white noise, and all the other 20 or so tests pushed it and it came out fine with no complaints.
Of course connections could be better and the formica finish would be nice if no particle wood was showing or covered up by black paint. Once atop of your set you can't tell the difference anyways.
I suppose if these things really bother you and you are a Sony buyer they have the ES line for you!
