| lycia's Full Review: Sony SS-CN490 Center Speaker |
First, I don't have a lot of money. So with that in mind, over the last two years I have been slowly buying my home theatre system. I Started with a Sony Receiver, then added the Sony DVP-300 (I got this in a trade for a computer I built with spare parts!!). Next I added the Sony SS-MF315. I love these speakers! Not only are they pleasing to look at, they have incredible sound. Another reviewer said the MF315's didn't have enough base, well that is simply isn't true. When I go into my back rooms I can feel the thump of the base in the floors and in the walls and the doors. At the time I was looking for a center channel I was using a Zenith 27" TV with no stereo sound. I went to Sears one day to look at my Dream TV the Sony KV-36FV16 Wega(I eventually bought this Monster!! Incredible TV by the way). I knew Sears often has a display where they have returns and open box items for sale. So guess what I see on the top shelf?? Yep, the SS-CN490 for $39.99!. I had seen this same one at Best Buy, where I got my SS-MF315's, for about $99.99. The only bad thing I found was that the bottom of the SS-CN490 had scratches, but that was due to the other owner and when placed on my TV not noticeable . The look of the SS-CN490 matches the SS-MF315 exactly, from the A/V Grey to the bottom curve on the removable grille. I had hesitated on buying these from BB because of the price, but I couldn't pass up $39!!. I easily hooked these up to my receiver's center channel output and put on the Matrix DVD, Chapter 29!, turned off the sound to my TV, and was blown away. My girlfriend, who doesn't care about important things like that, was amazed at the clarity of the voices coming from the center of the TV.
Obviously I got a great deal on the SS-CN490, however, if I hadn't and was still able to hear these perform, I think I would fork out the $99 and buy them.
