| jcoers's Full Review: JBL SCS125A Speaker System |
I purchased the SCS125A in September for quite a bit less than the listed price, and I have been quite impressed with them.
I'm running all five speakers through a Toshiba XB-1507, with 100 watts per channel. This does concern me, though, as these speakers are only rated to 50 watts each, with a 75 watt subwoofer. A friend of mine who also bought the set has blown one during use.
My set up is in a dorm room (20x15), so these speakers are perfect in size and capacity. The sound is very crisp and clear. The subwoofer is a bit small for people who really like bass. During the first 15 minutes of the Dolby Digital encoded film Top Gun, there is quite a bit of distortion in the subwoofer if the volume is up and the jet engines are at full blast.
The speakers themselves are a clever design, very neat and tidy. The box declares these speakers to be the smallest two-way communication speakers produced. Most of the mounting hardware is included except for the screws for the mounting brackets. The finish on the subwoofer is a bit weak. Mine is in a high traffic area and the finish is wearing off on the edges from where people brush against it.
Overall, I recommend this all-in-one home theater package.
