| jpomeroy's Full Review: Paradigm Monitor 9 Main / Stereo Speaker |
The Paradigm Monitor 9 speakers provide a warm, full sound while maintaining the high-frequency precision required of a critical listener. When I was shopping for main speakers I listened to more than twenty different models and brands of speakers, and I found these to be the best under $1000/pair by far. Not as bright as the Polks, much cleaner than the JBLs, and fuller than the Infinitys; you will find yourself discovering music you have listened to for years. I have had these speakers for almost two years, and as I upgrade other components in my system (receiver, cd player, etc.) I find they sound better each time. The speakers are built with four wiring studs/speaker to allow dual-amping, and gold plated ties are provided for powering each speaker with one line.
The biggest disadvantage comes with their size, over fifty pounds each, at about 36 inches high and a 1 ft square footprint. If your goal is to build a home theater system, this could certainly be prohibitive. However, if like me (Paradigm Monitor 9 fronts, Cambridge Soundworks dipole surround rears, Paradigm CC-450 center, Energy 80Wx8in sub), you intend to use them for a variety of home-theater, recreational and critical listening, the Paradigms are great.
I have had nothing but pleasure, and would buy these speakers again.
