| utbigrod's Full Review: Velodyne CT-100 Subwoofer Speaker |
I have heard a lot of the subs out there in the 10" range. I have listened to the rivals from Acoustic Research, Klipsch, JBL, Infinity, and Paradigm. NONE of these can even touch the CT100. The sound is rich and clean. I listen to the CT100 running off my Onkyo TX-DS595 and it thumps. I can't even barely turn the sound volume on the sub past 10 o'clock without getting all kinds of noise complaints from downstairs.
Funny thing happened, I first had hooked up the CT100 and of course I had it cranked up way to loud and was listening to highly bass-intensive songs and movies. Next thing I know there is a huge crash from the kitchen. I go in to find the sub had vibrated my 8" sauce pan off the counter onto the floor. This thing can really move air...and pots and pans!
I have had great success with both music and movies with the CT100. I enjoy rap and R&B and the sub does so much for both of these genres. It can really dip down in the bandwidth also. A great movie to test your sub out is Armageddon. The scene where the Liberty and the Independence are taking off is a great low rumble. Some the other subs (Infinity, JBL) would barely even register this scene. When the Velodyne showed the same scene I felt like I was on the tarmack 100 yards away from the space shuttles. The sub is intense. Velodyne makes a great product.
My only compaint is that the sub comes with these 4 little rubber footpads that you are supposed to stick on the bottom. They are pretty hoaky I think and I wish that Velodyne would have altered the packaging and just installed 4 rubber pads on the bottom with set-screws. That is a small price to pay though for such a tremendous sub.
