| parrothead73's Full Review: JVC XV-501 DVD Player |
I purchased this player, and after just one month of average use, the problems began. The biggest problem is lockup. You will be watching a DVD, going along fine, then WHAM--the pictures freezes. After that, the only cure is to unplug the unit and restart the movie. I have never heard of a DVD player crashing like a computer, this one does! Also, it will intermittently reject DVDs, for no rhyme or reason. Pop the DVD in, it spits it right back out. Many other times, it will accept the DVD, then get stuck on the "Reading" stage forever, until you finally give up and try to retrieve the DVD....only then will you find out that once again, you have to unplug the unit to remove the disc. I ran a DVD cleaner through it, no help. I called JVC, the offered to repair it, but when I asked what they would do to repair it, they acted quite unsure of themselves, and rather uninterested in my problem. Bottom line, if you see this player "on sale" somewhere, look the other way.
