For $290 my roommates and I didn't complain too much when we first got this little "gem". Not until we attempted to play "Cruel Intentions" (a double-layered DVD) in it.
It just kept reading and reading, but would never engage. I went looking through JVC's website and finally found what the "fix" was.
If the double-layer DVD screws up do the following to reset the EPROM:
1) Press in & hold The "On Screen" & "Title" buttons on the face of the unit.
2) Unplug the unit.
3) Plug the unit back in.
4) Press the Enter Button on the face of the unit
5) Display will read "TEST JC3" or "TEST JC2"
6) When the "RESUME" light comes on, power off the unit
7) Power unit back on
8) Repeat until problem is fixed
We have had to do the about 75% of the time when trying to play double layered cd's. Sometimes we've had to repeat the procedure as many as 7 times to fix the problem.
The digital signal will also get screwed up occasionally and the DVD will skip ahead. The steps above also fix this problem.
