| LarryArmstrong's Full Review: JVC XV-501 DVD Player |
I used to sell televisions and other consumer electronics, and until my experience with this DVD player, I had a generally good opinion about JVC products. All that has changed.
The good:
Picture and sound quality are excellent. One of the coolest features is digital zoom that allows you to enlarge a portion of the picture. Great if you want to look at a small detail such as a road sign.
The bad:
The enter button on remote control is integrated with the directional buttons into a mini joystick making it sometimes difficult to use.
The truly awful:
The unit runs very hot. At just under a year of usage, the unit refused to play many DVDs it had previously played. The picture and sound would break up. I took it to a JVC authorized service center and spent $130 to replace the optical pickup unit, which only had a 90 warranty. After four months, the problem has resurfaced. JVC hasn’t returned my e-mail about this. I decided not to invest in any more repairs for this unit and instead bought a Sony DVD player.
I don’t think that I'll ever purchase or recommend a JVC product again.
