The main reason that I decided to buy this player for my family, is that it was cheap, and they employee at the store I purchaced it at said that it was worth the money. We have had it for about 1 year and a half and it is still working wonderfully.
DVD is the next big jump in home theater. You get perfect quality video and audio, right there in your living room. DVD's also do not get worse like tapes do after dozens of watchings. You also do not need to deal with re-winding and fast-forwarding as you do with VHS tapes.
This Phillips model is really good consitering it's price that I picked it up for. It has all the standard features, but it does not have a optical auido output for linking to a CD-R machine, or a MiniDisc unit. It also has a cool feature that most other players don't, zoom lets you zoom any portion of the movie for a closer veiw, very helpful for catching those little details or for porn.
So, If you would like to buy a DVD player, I think this model would be a great buy.
