Pros: Functions without a hitch (so far), lightweight.
Cons: Confusing remote control. Tangle of three cords to connect to monitor.
The Bottom Line: As my entry into DVD technology, I found this easy enough once all the connections were made. But I wonder about technophobes, remotophobes and cable-hookup illiterates.

| Cassady's Full Review: Pioneer DV-414 DVD Player |
This is my first DVD player, and previously my videophiliac
standard of excellence was an antiquated Pioneer Laserdisc
player. I am pleased at the same company's push into the new format; DVD films truly have more and better viewing options than anything out there, and this unit accesses them nicely - if you the tricky remote control. I do agree that the keypad layout, especially those "menu" and "return" keys, tends to cause more confusion than it solves. My majore complaint with the system probably isn't Pioneer's fault; I've had cause to hook up and unhook the connecting cables with two different monitor systems, and it's a true trial-and-error process, figuring out which of the three colored cables should go where on a set that was manufactured a good ten years earlier.
