| Waveman's Full Review: Pioneer DV-414 DVD Player |
I bought my DV-414 in January '00, and since then it's never had ANY problems. For the average mid-range home theater setup, this unit is perfect.
The picture quality seems superb to me, though I don't have anything to compare it against as it is my first and only DVD player. The inclusion of high quality component outputs was a major factor in my decision to buy this player, and is impressive considering its price point. The output through this connection to my 36" Sony Wega is nothing short of astonishing (just the way DVD should be!) I have not tried the S-video or composite output.
Its feature set is quite adequate, and to be honest I have not tried many of the features, even ones present on every DVD player (such as multi angle). However, its ability to play CD-R media is one feature it has (that many other DVD players do not) that I would not live without. The player has become my primary CD player as well, because of this.
I have not observed ANY glitches on this player, after watching hundreds of different DVDs.
The remote is fine, though again I have not used it very much because I control the 414 from a master remote.
Construction seems solid, and the tray is not flimsy in the least. The unit is very light, but seems rugged enough.
I really have no complaints about the DV-414. For someone who is looking for a solid, reliable DVD player (or who needs one which plays CD-Rs) at a great price, I thoroughly recommend this unit.
