I traded in a sub-standard, el-cheapo, no name, bottom of the line DVD player for a Pioneer DV-525 DVD player.
I got my Pioneer DV-525 DVD player at Worst Buy. (Best Buy in name only.) I really did get an awesome deal on it, (I paid $169.00). But Best Buy promises you one thing, (5 free movies with purchase), and gives you another,(5 movies they pick out whenever they get around to mailing them to you, if you carefully follow the rebate instructions). Make sure you save copies of everything for your records.
When I got my Pioneer DV-525 home, it would power up, but not read any disk, CDROM or DVD. After yet another trip to Best Buy, I finally got one that works. (I still have to go back. One of the DVDs I bought has a couple of chapters that will not play.)
The Pioneer DV-525 is not bad; it has the features I was looking for, (S-Video, Wireless Remote, a brand name I trust, etc.). So far it does what I have asked of it, and after learning the control on the remote, I am happy with my purchase.
Now I need to go out and upgrade my stereo system to go with it.
