| 0mar's Full Review: Pioneer DV-525 DVD Player |
The Pioneer DV-525 is an excellen piece of hardware. It boasts numerous functions and gadgets. For instance, you can access the menu and the title page of a DVD at any time. This is excellent for when you want to jump to a spefic chapter or part in the movie.
Installing the DVD is not very complicated. The instructions are laid out nicely and the cables are color coded for ease. But it does take some trial and error. For me, I spent a good half hour figuring out how to place the DVD player on my Extension Port. The manual isn't exactly clear on that part, but if spend some time running a little trial and error, you should have no problems.
The video quality is excellent. Considering its DVD, it had better be :). The picture comes out nice and smooth. There is almost no sign of grainyness that is edivent in some old VCRs. I noticed a huge increase of picture quality from my VCR. It was clearer, bigger, the colors shone more and I was very well pleased.
Likewise, the sound was incredible. I felt like I was in a movie theatre. Even though I don't have surrond sound, it has support for it. Still, with only stereo sound, I was amazed. Going back to VCR or TV is almost a bore. The DVD delivers Live quality sound. It's almost as if a band is playing in your living room.
However, there are some downsides. You won't get the full effect of the DVD quality unless you have a good TV. This is because on a small TV, you don't see much anyways. Smaller TVs tend to have smaller speakers. And the video quality, normally, is sacrificed for compactibility. This is why DVDs kind of....suck on small TVs. To appericate its full power, you need at least a 40 incher. Otherwise, it's going to waste.
Overall, this is an excellent DVD that is well worth your hard earned money. If your thinking about buying one, make no mistakes, this is the one you should buy.
