Changer is for the movies in VCD format (Reply to this comment)

A typical 2 hour movie takes 2 to 3 CDs if the movie is in Video CD format. Video CD is still the popular movie format in the far east and it will be so may be for the next couple of years.

It is a good player! (Reply to this comment)

I have 3 DVD players (Pioneer 302, Aiwa single player and RCA single player). The Pioneer is hands down the easiest to use. The remote layout is good and the controls can be changed easily. I operate mine using the S-Video out and the digital audio out to my Pioneer receiver (a 608), and the whole setup runs smooth as silk.

Advantages: The Pioneer plays more formats (CD/CD-R/VCD/CDi/etc) than the other 2 players combined. In facts very few players indeed can play what they do. I tested by burning some downloaded mpg files onto a CD and they played just fine in the DVD player (far better than on a PC screen).

Disadvantages: No zoom feature (maybe some people will say so what, I don't care, but, it is a pretty cool feature to be able to zoom in and out while watching a DVD. No MP3 support. This seems to be the new wave of DVD features. It is a great feature if you have the capability to make MP3 CD's.

Single Disc Version (Reply to this comment)

If there was a player as versatile as the DV-C302D but for single DVD's at a cheaper price, I would have gone for that.

Pioneer's own DV-333 is the single disc version of the player you have. $250 for the 302D you bought is a great price. The 333 runs about the same and you did say you were looking for a "cheaper" single disc player.

Incidentally, I have the DV-525, the predecessor to the 333. I love it. A great advantage of the Pioneer players over other brands is their ability to play CDR and CDRWs. Not all players will read these media.

carousel (Reply to this comment)
by mattjoe
This plays Cds too right? Maybe thats what the carousel is for. I can't imagine sitting on the couch for as long as three movies would take up without wanting to get up for at least something to eat. I can't imagine being so lazy as to get three dvds, stick them all in and refuse to get up to at least expend the energy to change them. Maybe they made this for that really fat guy who couldn't even get out of bed.
