| dkgamez's Full Review: Pioneer DV-09 DVD Player |
This DVD player has been called the reference dvd player meaning that this is the DVD player whose standards others must live up to in order to even be compared to it.
I bought the Pioneer Elite DV-09 for one reason because I needed a DVD player for my new home theater and my old first generation Panasonic A-110 just wasn't going to cut it. I mainly decided on the DV-09 because of it's Elite status. Pioneer has a special Elite line which is pretty much top of the line equipment. I was already getting a Pioneer Elite Pro-700HD rear projection television set so I thought I might as well match them.
I'm not really the kind of person that's into all the technical aspects of products but I can say that the change from my Panasonic DVD player to the Pioneer was amazing. The video and sound quality increased dramatically. This was probably benefited by my use of component video as the connection along with optical out. Using the highest connection type will improve results greatly. That's why I suggest getting a DVD player with component connection instead of the old standard composite connection type.
The thing I liked the most about this product was it's look. The wood finish on the sides makes it look classy. Another cool thing is the double air lock tray mechanism. So when you open the DVD tray its like having 2 doors. The first one is the standard pop out tray for the DVD. Then another door covers that one to insure no dust can get inside. Now that's a cool feature.
About the only thing I don't like about the DV-09 is the remote control. For $2000, I would think Pioneer would be able to make a better remote control than what they came up with. I just thought that it felt cheap as I held it in my hand. I also have a Sony 5 DVD changer and would have like if Pioneer made a remote control more similar to that.
I think only the person who demands the greatest video and audio quality from their DVD's buy this product. Everyone else is probably better off saving their $2000 and buying a $500 dvd player because if your an average person like me then you probably once notice that much of a difference.
