With a good coax cable, the sound will be better. Optical cable can kink, also the smallest particle of dust in the connection will degrade the sound. Most audiophiles agree on this. Don't pay a lot of money for coax cable, do your research on audio review.com, $40. should do it. Try it, I think you will agree.

As someone who amassed a big LD collection, I was intrigued by your review. I assumed when you complained about the price you meant it was $500 or so. :( Boy was I mistaken. Now I guess I either have to retire my LD player or get a bigger entertainment center if I want a DVD player. :(
