| trishanne's Full Review: Sony DVP-CX850D Multi-disc DVD Player |
I recently started a home business which really took off at Christmas time this year, and I was able to buy this for my husband for Christmas. Wasn't he surprised?
He had been looking at multi-disc CD changers for over a year, and when I saw this Sony DVD player that would hold and play 200 DVDs and/or CDs, I knew this was his Christmas gift.
Besides being able to store the DVDs and CDs in the player, and pack away the cases and get them off the bookshelf, we like the fact that you can organize the DVDs and CDs into folders. This comes in handy especially for the music CDs. Putting them into categories such as Oldies, Country, Rock, Christmas, etc. not only helps you locate the music you want, but allows you to play randomly from that folder. This is really nice with the holiday tunes.
Some of the things we don't like about this player is the way the discs are loaded...there is no easy way to get them in and out of the carousel (especially once it starts getting filled up) without putting your fingers on the surface. It would help if there were a feature that ejected the disc out of the carousel if you needed to remove it.
Another downfall is that almost none of the DVDs or CDs that we loaded into the player have been recognized. It is nice when the title shows up automatically in the menu, but that has happened too rarely. Yes, you can use a keyboard to type it in, but why should you have to? (Our DVD player is on top of our 61" big screen TV, so you can imagine how much fun it is trying to balance a keyboard dangling in front of the TV to enter titles that should have been recognized by the machine.
This unit was pretty expensive, and since we've only had it a month, it's hard to tell if we think it was worth the money. We've used it quite a bit already though, taking advantage of the free month of Netflix offer that came with it.
