Pros: Works ok, that is when it turns on, and doesn't overheat, or lose sync.
Cons: Have to leave it unplugged for 10 minutes before use/eject, loses sync during play.
The Bottom Line: Sony should recall this defective product. Instead, there is no mention of it's problems at their web site, so search some newsgroups and you'll see.

| skintigh's Full Review: Sony DVP-S530D DVD Player |
I bought this DVD player a little over a year ago and it worked great. Sometimes the movies would be out of sync with the sound, giving it a weird "lip-synced" look to it, but I assumed it was a problem with the DVD I was watching. Sony's web site mentioned nothing about it.
After about 6 months something weird happened. I hit the power button to turn it on, the power light turned green for a second like it was supposed to, then it turned back to red like it does when the player is off. I pressed the power button again, same thing happened. I pressed eject, same thing happened. Same thing happened for every button I pressed.
I unplugged it, poked at it, scratched my head, couldn't see anything wrong, plugged it back in, and it worked. Problem solved...
3 or so months later it happened again. I unplugged it, plugged it back in, still didn't work. I unplugged it, let it sit a few minutes, plugged it back in, and it worked.
A few months after that, I have to unplug it for 10 minutes every time I want to use it. Afterwards, it wont give me the DVD back. I either have to pry the tray open, or let it sit unplugged for a good part of an hour before it will eject the disc. This is great fun when I forget until 10 minutes before Blockbuster closes to return the DVD I rented...
Please note there is no mention of this problem on Sony's web site. There are hundreds of reviews and newsgroup posts that mention this issue, but, of course, Sony knows nothing about it.
Nor do they know anything about all the bugs in their line of receivers, but you'll have to read my other review for that.
