| ben-adfg's Full Review: Sony DVP-S530D DVD Player |
Just getting into DVD and not sure you want to fork over $500+ for a player? Check out Sony's DVP-S530D. Though Sony has a great name in home electronics, the price is normally commensurate with the name. This DVD player however is a different story.
I know that most people are into DVD for the fabulous video quality, but what about the audio? Everybody knows the video quality far surpasses VHS or regular TV, all you have to do is watch one. But most users only consider the audio in passing. Maybe enjoying the 5.1 channel surround sound, but not paying it much heed beyond that. Well this player provides amazing digital audio output, as well as the video.
Unlike many similarly priced units, this DVD player has two digital output jacks (one optical and one co-axial). This allows the user to hook up digital audio to the receiver for the 5.1 channel surround sound, or DTS, and still have a direct digital line out for recording (to minidisc, CD-R, DAT, or whatever). So you can make direct digital recordings of DVD concerts (newly released U2 Rattle & Hum for example), movies, or even CDs (which this unit plays flawlessly).
Of course the video output is fabulous, but you can read all these other reviews to find that out. Sony has apparently fixed the earlier flaw, and I have had no problems with "off-dubbing", even with the Matrix.
As for being satisfied with the money I spent? You bet! I laid out $375 for this player, and have no regrets.
