MaximumC2's Full Review: Sony DVP-S530D DVD Player
Sony has played a leading role in the entertainment experience for a good number of years. Sony's own creation of their DVD players only enhanced the quality of all DVD players already on the market. Sony set a standard with their players. Most Sony DVD players have a Dobly Digital Decoder already built into the DVD which is necessary if you are trying to create your own surround sound system with your own selection of speakers. It is equally important that you have a digital decoder in your DVD player even if you purchase one of the many home theater systems that come in packages. (i.e. BOSE, Sony, Yamaha, Denon, ect.)
The Decoder allows your system to separate the sound from your movie, concert video, or sound track to each and every speaker you have hooked up. Without a Decoder, your system will play in regular stereo sound. IF your receiver has a Dolby Digital Decoder, than you will be able to Decode Sounds from any device that you filter through your receiver. In essence, you will not need a decoder for your DVD, but I strongly recommend it because you may decide to take your DVD player and use it with another system, and thus, would need a DVD with the decoder, if the system didn't have it.
Aside from the Decoder part of Sony - Sony offers you the best picture quality in DVD that I have seen. DVD broadcasts in 500 lines of resolution which is double what you're used to seeing with standard cable. Don't be fooled by companies offering digital cable. Yes, it may be digital sound, and yes, it may be a digital picture, but only at 450 lines of resolution. Satellite viewing is the only other broadcast that gives you 500 lines all the time.
Sony DVD players are almost always Dolby Prologic Ready and DTS available. I don't bother sell ones that aren't. The price of $499 listed in this catagory is a little high, seeings how you can purchase a Sony DVD player for about $250 bucks.
Sony DVD players have stunning durability as well, they will last you until they create players capable of High Definition signals. One quick insite on purchasing large expensive televisions - A 10,000 dollar television will look no better than a 500 dollar one unless you send a more powerful signal through it. Anotherwards, if you put cable to a digital television and then to a analog televison - you will not see any difference. ( Unless you're purchasing the flat screen Sony VEGA) SO please, upgrade your signal before you upgrade your television.
