| OpinionMaster's Full Review: Sony DVP-S550D DVD Player |
There are many companies out there in the electronic world today. One of the top companies is Sony. Sony has provided us with tons of great electronic devices like TVs and Radio Systems, but is Sony the brand that you would want to purchase for a DVD player? It was for me. I have bought many Sony products and I was happy with all of them and this was the same deal. I personally liked it but was it worth it for me for this kind of price? Nope, it's just too much money but at least it have a great feature that put it ahead of all the other brands.
First of all, the one great feature about this player is that the remote control has a jog shuttle. This means that you can now control how many frames you want to advance or go backwards in a scene. This is a perfect feature for those of you who really want to see the intricate nature of what's happening on screen. Otherwise, it has exactly the same features it's predecessor, the DVP-S530D, had. It has RCA jacks for audio & video, S-Video, and component video jacks. It also has the coaxial and optical connections for Dolby Digital audio as well as the decoder in case you don't have a Dolby Digital decoder on your audio reciever. The jog shuttle is also on the deck in case you don't want to use the remote.
The only thing that almost made me NOT buy this product, instead of the other models, was the cost. In most stores, the difference between this player and the 530 is close to and over $100. To pay this much just to have the jog shuttle function on the remote is unacceptable, but for some reason I did it anyway. No matter how badly you want that remote, the money you spend for it can always be better spent on something better like more DVDs.
The Main Thing is that The player is a good one, but the cost for the remote alone isn't worth the money. If you want a Sony player, go with anything but this model unless you can get a great deal for it. I wish I have known this before I purchased it. So is it different than all other DVD players? I would have to say no on that one but it's still a great product none the less.
