I did buy a Toshiba SD5109 and it did not play all the new DVDs I bought. But my entry level Sony($300) does. If my cheap, entry-level Sony($300) can play all DVDs, I expect a retail-priced $1000 DVD player to play all DVDs!!! What good is a very expensive DVD player with a great picture if you can't watch the DVD you want on it? I rather have a good picture from a basic DVD player than no picture at all from an expensive DVD player.
How would you like it if you buy a new DVD and pay $20 or more for it and come home to play it. You unwrap it and put it in. And then it won't play. Now you can't take the DVD back after you opened it. So you are out $20 and you can't watch the movie...
It won't take very long before this gets old.
So it is better not to buy a SD5109 at all.
