After reading the reviews for the Toshiba SD-5109, I thought this was the player for me. So I bought one on May 25, 2000. I buy new DVD's and found out the SD5109 could not play all my new DVD's. The DVD's were new and nothing special. One DVD that failed was "In Too Deep". I tried the problem DVD's on another brand DVD player and the DVD's worked great! I took the DVD's to the store where I bought the SD5109 and tried the problem DVD's on their SD5109. The DVD's did not work on the store's SD-5109. I tried the problem DVD's on other store DVD players and the DVD's worked. I returned the SD5109 and got my money back. I really wanted the SD-5109 because of the progressive scan feature. I only paid $520 for the SD-5109 and thought that was a great price.
Does anyone else owning a SD5109 have the same problem? I watch a lot of DVD's. I just could not live with a product that doesn't work all the time. I would like to buy a DVD player with the progressive scan feature.
In the short time that I had this DVD player, the picture was was very dull. I did not have it hooked of to a HDTV. I had it connected to a very nice Toshiba 35" TV. It seemed to me that my Sony330 looked better.
