| richaull's Full Review: Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player |
I recently decided to build a home theatre system. Of course a dvd player is a must. I compared the toshiba with other dvd players but this one struck me as the best deal. I purchased this item for $250. So far I think its great. You can play all kinds of cds and dvds. The only drawback of dvds is that some are formatted in a 16:9 ratio which means you will have black bars on the top and bottom of your screen. There are 2 ways around this, first you can spend a minimum of $2000 and get a wide screen tv, or zoom in the picture, which will cause you to lose picture quality. Now, this set back is not just with this dvd player but with ALL players, so dont let that fact push you away from all the other great features. It has terrific sound especially with dolby digital surround sound. The screen resolution is twice as good as a vcr with outstanding quality. There is an S video input that will dramaticaly increase the picture quality. Just make sure your tv has an S video input first, if not you can always use regular rca cables. This system has an easy to follow setup menu where you can change settings and fine tune the system, even the novice with no electronic experiance can set this bad boy up. The only drawback I can think of is that this player can only play back one dvd at a time. Some players you can load 5 or more dvds at once, still only one plays at a time anyway. If your that lazy where you cant get up to change the dvd then you should trade this in and get some excersice equipment :) Another good thing is that you can also play music cds too. That always comes in handy to have. Keep in mind that you can play store bought cds but not home made cdrw's. There are dvd players that support this format but they cost a pretty penny. So, if your looking for the basic vital functions with a few extras then this is the dvd player for you, its affordable, easy to use, and looks and sounds great. I would definately recommend upgrading from the boring vcr era and get with the future of dvd!
