| RowdyH69's Full Review: Toshiba SD-2109 DVD Player |
The Toshiba 2109, recently discontinued, was the best the dvd on the market for the price. Its replacement the 1200 offers the same quality. When shopping for a new tv, I considered the possibility of buying a new dvd player. Working in retail along with being a poor college student my selection was limited. My store carries Sony, Toshiba, and Panasonic. The Toshiba tv that I decided on was a 27" PIP. The unit also featured three video inputs and Toshiba Color- Stream(component video). The TV cost me just over $300, leaving me with about $400 for a dvd player. Instead I opted for to buy a few dvds, rather than spend and extra hundred. I already owned a JVC RX778 receiver, along with yamaha surrounds. My store offered very few non-Dolby digital dvd players, with component video outputs. The 2109 was priced at my cost about seventy five less than my other options. Having owned Toshiba products in the past and now buying a Toshiba TV I decided to keep it a pair. The 2109 puts out 700 lines on my tv through Color Stream. When compared my brother's Sony 530D, no differences can be noticed. That may be due to the fact that I can't afford the speakers that bring out the difference. Out of the box setup, just don't forget the necessary cables. Don't be cheap on the cables, get Monster. It is lifetime warranted and can make all the difference. If I had the cash I would have ventured in to the upper level of dvd players(Denon, Harman Kardon, Marantz ... But for my mid-range budget, the Toshiba 2109 is the best component in my system. Since purchasing mine in the fall, my other brother and my roommate have each bought a 2109.
