Pros: Good bass, controls are easy, neat remote CD door, cool clock display
Cons: speakers can't be attached to the receiver part, volume momentarily increases when you lower it
The Bottom Line: Very awesome radio, excellent sound, good craftsmanship, easy-to-use and impressive features, price is a litte high though, not too bad

| streakin_bill's Full Review: JVC FS-5000 CD Shelf System |
When I first saw the JVC radio playing in a Sharper Image store, I knew I wanted one for my room at home. Before then, I had been borrowing my sister's huge Panasonic monster of a stereo that invaded the whole top of my bookshelf. Not only was it large, but the sound was only fair. Sound improved when the volume was turned up a bit, but that was rare. The JVC radio blew the Panasonic out of the water and left no wreckage floating around. The sound was ten times better, the bass was deep and rich, and most of all, it actually fit on my shelf. Another really nice feature about this radio is that it had very nice FM radio reception. I can pick up radio stations from more than 70 miles away, something that was a privilege on the old system. Second, the controls were easy to understand and laid out logically. There are two interesting features about the controls. One is that an analog clock is backlit on the display behind the radio station number or the digital clock display. The other cool thing is that when you adjust the volume from the remote, the big volume dial on the front of the receiver moves in accordance with which way you go. The two trim styles that you can choose from for this stereo are wood paneling or graphite gray. I have graphite and it looks pretty sharp. I've gotten many comments from friends about this thing and I am certainly a happy owner.
