| aleary's Full Review: JVC FS-SD5 Shelf System |
The obvious benefit of this system is the size and ease of use. I have been totally impressed with its performance too.
I recently purchased about $5000 worth of stereo and television equipment for my mother's new house, and as an aside we picked this little guy out so she could have music in the living room when company comes by (you know classical background stuff). I don't think she has turned the thing off since plugging it in, why change what has been working so well.
I wasn't home when my mom got all the equipment we chose to "pimp" her house out, but instantly my techno phobic mother plugged this guy in and found her favorite classical station. I don't even think she needed to plug the speakers in the back, it was ready to roll at the start. The great home theater is still a couple of steps from being in full operation, and I doubt she will even be fully comfortable with it.
The whole thing can easily fit into a large show box and takes up very little desk space. Despite the size I can hear the cleans classical music from anywhere in the house.
The clean design and cool blue lighting are subtle and calm enough to blend into the fancy decor of my mother's most formal room intended mostly for guests and presentation. The added touch of the background classical music has really rounded out the room.
This system is only a radio and a CD player. Both functions are simple and work perfectly. All the buttons are well marked (even my mother knows how to read it) and it doesn't try to attempt to be anything more than a good simple music machine. I can easily see this being used in an office or a college room where people just want it to work and not take up any space.
The biggest down part is the price. The convenience of it drives up the price, but for my mother being able to use it has made it worth more than the heaps of other electronics we spent ten times as much on.
