| foden55's Full Review: Aiwa XH-A1000 Shelf System |
Just over a year ago I started looking for a new hifi with a bit more potency as far as power goes. after owning an old Aiwa NSX thing with a less than brutal 40watts x2 I wanted something that would wake the dead. I stumbled across the Aiwa XH-A1000 by complete accident in Dixons. My initial thoughts were 'what an ugly thing that is!' but after hearing a quick test in the store I was blown away! Yes the speakers were like 4ft tall and the main unit looked like something out of the enterprise's control unit, but this things sound was brilliant. I took a chance on the hifi and bought it outright for £425 a decision that to this day has been one of the best I have EVER made. The system established itself as main sound for DVD Cable TV and Video, as well as being connected up to my PC for MP3 use. The XH-A1000 has an army of aux ports both in and out which let you connect pretty much any home entertainment piece of kit to it. Another impressive feature is the option for both Dolby Pro Logic or 5.1, which ever takes your fancy. Personally I would go for Pro Logic as the 100Watt rear speakers tend to sound better in that mode. But to be perfectly honest if you really want a crystal clear home cinema kit you can buy better than this. The partnership between 2 massive front speakers and 2 sub standard rears doesn't produce the best home cinema sound you would expect for this amount of money. So lets not beat around the bush, the Aiwa XH-A1000 is amazing for one solid reason, it pumps out a colossal amount of bass and sound in general. it is rated at 1000 watts RMS, now that is a hell of a lot of power to be content with. If you want a hifi for house parties or demolition purposes then get this monster! It plays bass heavy rock songs and pumping club music superbly. I have tried it at indoor parties and it was amazing there, and just last week it was used at an outdoor firework event for friends and family, the power proved more than enough to fill a large garden, infact you could still hear the music after 5 minutes walk up the road! to put it simply if you want a precision home cinema kit, spend your hard earned cash on a Sony or Panasonic home cinema kit (because in my opinion they are the best on the market) but if you want something with solid bowl moving bass and enough volume to make your eardrums bleed, then look no further, this Goliath of a machine simply obliterates all competition!!!!
