| electropigeon's Full Review: Bose Lifestyle 25 Theater System |
Bose is a widely recognized name in the home theater industry, but this system may not be the best for every home theater set up. Check out this review and see if this system fits your specific needs.
First, there is the obvious issue of size. If you need a small system, you will be hard pressed to find a better unit in the size of these "jewel cube" speakers and amplifier. A Bose speaker with a Bose receiver is a great system for crisp and accurate surround sound in a compact size. But for people with a lot of room who can accommodate a larger system (and a better subwoofer), going big could provide a sound closer to your perceptions of "What home theater should be." If you are looking for a powerful boom and a room-shaking explosions, you may want to look at a larger modular system and subwoofer.
This Bose unit has great sound, but mostly in regards to higher tones, such as Classical music or Acoustic strings. If you listen primarily to rock, pop, or watch action films, you may be able to find a better system for a similar cost. If you are a fan of deep bass or the full visceral vibration of your films, this Bose unit may not be the best system for you.
Also, make sure that if you're going out to give it a listen, that you bring your own DVD to the store. The demonstration disk given by Bose to most dealers is not a 100% accurate idea of the sound you will get from your typical DVD's.
To summarize:
Great sound on high tones- classical, acoustic folk and adult contemporary listeners will love its sound on discs. Fans of drama, romance and comedy will find the surround sound system effects to fill their needs.
Not the best system for rock, pop or especially hip hop, R&B or funk music. For movies, fans of action movies will be satisfied with the sound, but may wish for a better subwoofer down the road.
