Pros: Incredible sound experience.
Cons: PRICE (and I don't prefer the CD cartridge)
The Bottom Line: Even though it comes with a heavy price, the system is durable, easy to use (remote works from any room), and has excellent sound quality.

How many advertisements promise, subtly or outright, that your life will change if you buy the promoter’s particular product?
Part I: My Resistance to Being Taken By the Tiny Cubes
For years, my husband raved about Bose speakers, drooled over them in mall stores, made me listen to demos time and time again, could not stop talking about the incredible sound those tiny cubed speakers produce…
Every time, I looked at the price and walked out of the store. I comforted him by saying, “someday, honey,” and I secretly waited for him to forget about the cubed gems. But after a decade of being pulled into Bose stores, I finally went into “the demo room that changes your life.” If you do not want to spend a lot of money, DO NOT step foot into this room!
Part II: Succumbing
The room I speak of is a mini-movie theater, found in various Bose stores and outlets. The lights dim, happy faces fill the movie screen, and incredible sounding music accompanies the heavenly display.
I’m not very easily swayed by advertisements. I knew those happy faces paired with the sounds of deep, rich music were telling my unconscious mind that I would be very HAPPY if I bought the Bose system. Still, I could not help myself. I gave in. I bought the Lifestyle 25 Series II System as a Christmas present for my husband. And, indeed, it has enriched our lives!
Part III: Happily Ever After
I wondered if I had made the right decision the moment my husband set up our speakers and began blasting music from his high school years throughout the house.
However, the quality of the Bose system makes even the most obnoxious music (somewhat) tolerable.
One of my main concerns about a surround sound system was the level of noise that I would have to deal with. I’m not the most tolerant person when it comes to loud noises. Hearing trains blast through my living room or soldiers killing each other in battle (behind my couch) are not my idea of a relaxing evening at home spent watching movies.
I’ve listened to other home theater systems at friends’ houses, and have been utterly annoyed by the booming of airplanes or loud screeches while watching a movie. It didn’t enrich the viewing experience at all.
However, the digital dynamic range compression of the Bose system automatically adjusts the level of sound so that the special effects of movies don’t blast us out of our seats while we have the volume turned up to hear those soft whispers.
The Bose system really has lived up to its promise of “life enrichment.” Music has always been something that can make my spirit soar. With the Bose system, the music moves through my body and mind in a more vivid and intense manner. I can’t help moving my body to the music that streams through the magic cubes. The sounds seem more alive, more present, and more compelling through the Bose system. It calls my attention to it, rather than making the music fall into the backdrop.
It even saved us over $300! (Okay, so maybe I’m just trying to rationalize the cost…) But really—we would have been very tempted to go along with our friends and buy tickets to the Eagles concert a month ago when they came through Denver. Instead, we bought the DVD, and cranked up the Bose system. Front row seats on a comfy couch, and we didn’t have to deal with asking for a refund because of the horrible sound system at the new Invesco Field.
Most often these days, we rent DVDs rather than going out to the show, because our Bose system gives us the same quality sound as a movie theater. And you can’t beat watching concerts through the system!
In summary, the Bose system is definitely worth the bucks! It is relatively simple to set up (though different placement of the speakers will bring different sound intensity—my parents also bought a system (after stepping into “the room” with us), but they placed their speakers further behind the main sitting area—I prefer our set up, with the “back” speakers set to each side of our sofa). Most of all, it transforms sound into an intense feeling experience!
(Oh, and by the way, I specifically stayed away from technical jargon in this review, in order to give you more of an "experience" of the Bose system. At least one reviewer would say that I was manipulated by Bose into buying an inferior product. Read his review too--you'll get the technical side of it!)
