crow2's Full Review: Bose Lifestyle 30 Theater System
Ok.
So you're the average person having those few extra hard earned cash and you wish to upgrade your old Dolby Surround system to something really powerful. Let me tell u something. I've actually listened to this system (so u can include lifestyle 50 with this review).
It's true, those damn small cubes and that module are very attractive. The midrange might sound perfect. The bass excellent. But is this quality?
I've had the opportunity to test the difference between such a lifestyle and Am15. Difference? erm.... (are there any?) First of all if that's what u call a ht system u must add a REAL SUBWOOFER, not a 'powered module' that goes up to 250Hz. It's very similar to the AM 15, MAYBE goes a little deeper: but nothing tremendously special.
As in the case of the AM, the midrange is fair. Although i didn't listen to them for a tremendous amount of time, i admit that it was exactly the same as the AM's. In fact, i was beginning questioning myself if the dealer REALLY switched to the Lifestyle. Regarding the jewels, i still don't believe that they go up to 20KHz. Ok, u might tell me that they are not built up with paper... this does not mean that it's 100% guaranteed that they can really reach the highest frequencies...
Let's check the specs (sorry forgot that there are NO DAMN SPECIFICATIONS: NOT EVEN POWER RATING!!!(A Bose dealer classified it as 'over 200W of total power'(not per channel)). Therefore u're just buying an (average) 100W thing). What about the drivers? Damn!!! the excellent type of drivers possible!!!!!! (Come on!! common paper is an audiophile device!)
The "receiver". Any chance of dts? (not to mention mp3's, cd-r and all the rest of the family...). Any chance or upgradability?
The remote (including the touch screen display of LS50). ok RF (they can't absolutely make EVERYTHING wrong, can't they?)...... any chance of future programmable ones? i already have a vast variety of normal remotes on my bed.
Regarding easiness of use, as always, one of Bose's strongest point (although i see no complications in connecting a normal speaker with the same type of wire that Bose uses (that is monopolar (or whatever it's called))with a receiver, or a subwoofer through a normal coaxial cable). In my opinion, the whole thing is even more complicated than the traditional 'conventional' systems. This is because when it comes to the satellites, these cannot be connected directly to an amp / receiver, but have to be first passed through the 'module' (note the sarcasm) and THEN to the dvd / cd player.
Seriously, for the priced paid the whole thing is just crap. One can have much better with much less the price.
I may not be the best audiophile in Malta (that's where i live: under sicily), but come on! is that quality?
By the way, if you think that it's the best company in the world, b4 continuing believing it, check out Bose's FAQs
