| SKIP-K's Full Review: Yamaha YHT-16 Shelf System |
Looking for a complete Home Theater system can be very confusing and you always take a gamble as to what everything will sound like when it's put together in your own home which sounds quite different from what you hear in a store.
To make this review hopefully useful, I'll skip the specifics since they are already listed and just say that for a system under $600.00, I am amazed at the clarity, quality, sound choices and selections, and Yamaha's obvious total commitment to great sound. I looked at comparable systems from Sony, Kenwood, Aiwa, and Pioneer. I listened to them all and deceided on the Yamaha. It is connected to my TV, VCR, and DVD Player and the sound is incredible.
Yamaha calls their receiver a "Natural Sound Stereo Receiver" and it shows. They re-created various sounds like stadiums, concert halls, etc. by going to the real thing and re-producing the sound as close as possible. This system definetly has a unique "real" sound all its own. The connection guide is fairly easy, the remote operates most other equipment, and the quality and feel is first rate.
I bought the Yamaha at Best Buy so I don't know how readily they are available to those who may read this. I will sum up by letting you know that while I'm not an expert, I do know good quality sound when I hear it and this system along with my DVD player sounds really great. My friends and neighbors have all been impressed and for the money I had to spend, I am still excited whenever I watch a movie or a concert video. I believe you could buy this Home Theater package and be very surprised with the superior quality and sound it displays.
