| sumersbe's Full Review: Aiwa XD-DW1 5.8 in. Portable DVD Player |
I was lucky enough to get this refurbished for under $500, it was well worth the money if you ask me
+Graphics are very crisp. The only thing that I have to mention about the graphics is that the LCD screen it uses does NOT support 16:9 aspect ratios, which means you'll have to deal with the fact that the widescreen movies which are the most available on DVD format will have black bars.
+Sound Contains Q-Sound technology which livens up the audio. Only noticable when using the internal speakers and not using the output.
+Features Now this is where the unit really shines at. It not only supports DVD, but half a dozen other formats.
DVD- Great playback, no 16:9
VCD- Can get choppy, but works most the time
SVCD- DVD quality at the simple cost of a CDR, I now encode all of my home movies to this format for cost saving, as well as the ability to watch them on nearly any DVD player
Mini-DVD- This if you ask me, is the most important feature out there. Out of hundreds of DVD players, the Aiwa DW1 is one of the two that support this feature. This allows you to create DVD like filestructures on normal CDs and have them played back in the unit. You can jazz it up by adding menus, sound effects, etc. If you are into creating your own movies, you can create commerical quality DVD like videos and view them on your TV.
