| bwkarabian's Full Review: Aiwa XD-DW1 5.8 in. Portable DVD Player |
I recently purchased the XD-DW1 for home and travel use only to find out that I should have listened to the anti-Aiwa consumer lobby. Against the advice of trusted friends, I sank six hundred dollars into the portable dvd player only to have it cease operating after just four days! Until that point I was extremely satisfied with the machine. It is smaller than I imagined, and contrary to many reviews, the battery is not as bulky as they suggest. Picture quality is good and sound is phenomenal in conjunction with headphones. Sound quality without headphones is somewhat limited in terms of volume. Clearly, headphones make the best use of the Q surround feature. It did get very hot and made me wonder if this was an accepted fault or just a faulty unit. Only time will tell. Most unnerving is the lack of customer service at Aiwa. My unit has been sitting untouched for a week in one of their "service centers", which is much too long to wait for a new $600 toy to be fixed. I recommend establishing a productive link with your retailer in the likelihood that you encounter a problem. They talk to me as if I should have assumed this when I bought the electronic unit, but for 600 bucks I expect some respectful service not sly remarks. You are probably better off spending your money on a more reliable brand.
