Pros: Sound, Style, and Price.
Cons: Poor remote design and somewhat bass shy.
The Bottom Line: I've looked at many systems and this is the only one I've really liked. If you can deal without a cassette player you won't be disappointed, especially for $300.

| brettgaskill's Full Review: Onkyo CS-209 Shelf System |
This unit fits its purpose perfectly in almost every way. Speakers made from real wood. Motorized lighted volume control. You can even set different days of the week as weekday or weekend for timer purposes. The Onkyo CS-209 oozes quality.
The amplifier uses completely discrete outputs and can handle up to a 4 ohm load. Unlike my $400 component CD player, this unit has yet to skip on any of my damaged discs. All of this translates to very clean and satisfying sound - on par with far more expensive systems. As expected for a unit this size there is a general lack of bass. However, Onkyo provided a subwoofer preout for those seeking a little more oomph from their music.
The remote does almost everything you'd expect, and a lot you wouldn't. Unless you own several other Onkyo components you'll find only a quarter of the buttons really all that useful.
