Pros: Great sound for a little bugger. Excellent speakers. Good fit & finish all around.
Cons: Skimped on quality w/ the remote, which is cramped, difficult to use and cheapish.
The Bottom Line: Excellent minimalist mini with big-stereo sound in a small package for a great price. Keep the ugly remote control out of sight and you'll be stylin.

| mick-e's Full Review: Onkyo CS-209 Shelf System |
The efficiency between the receiver & speaks is great. 20W per side rivals the high-end and midrange sound of my Luxman RX101 (40W) - PolkAudio big stereo combo. In comparison, it only comes up a little short on the bottom end (which is to be expected).. but not by a whole lot.
I was very impressed by the overall sound, features and overall quality. This stands apart from the cheap Kenwood and Sonys in the same price range. The simplicity of the single disk CD unit will is also nice. No funky multi disk changer contraptions here. Just simple, high quality listening.
It also has timer/alarm dealios that I will never use, but those features exist here - FYI. It has multiple inputs in the back so you can plug in cassette decks, minidisks, etc.
The remote control unit seems like an afterthought here. Not the greatest thing in the package. The buttons are too small, it's made of cheap gray plastic, and doesn't seem to belong with the rest of the set at all. Other than that, it works fine.
Buy this unit and you won't be disappointed.
