Pros: Decent bass for the size, cool looking
Cons: Durability, too much purple on the display
The Bottom Line: Didn't hold up but I doubt other brands like Sony or Aiwa would either. Separate components are better. They sound better and if one part dies you aren't screwed.

| Chevyman16's Full Review: Panasonic SC-AK20 Shelf System |
My sister got this cd player for christmas 3 years ago. At the time it was $399 Canadian but prices have gone down since then.
It seemed really cool at the time. It has a 5 disc changer, lots of flashy lights, loud and heavy deep bass, different sound modes.
For about 3 years it worked fine. Never skipped, never jammed a cd even though the loud changer mechanism always sounded like it would. It would play all cd's fine, but my sister hardly ever used it until this past year. She used it for a few months when she first got it, then she would only listen to the radio and the cd player only got used about once every few months. My sister just went through a long phase where she didn't listen to hardly any music.
In the last 3+ years this cd player has been used about as much as my portable cd player does in 3 months. Just recently it started skipping on clean, brand new cd's for no reason at all. If you walk by it too fast it will skip. I think for the amount of use this cd player has gone through it shouldn't have died this early. We did try a lens cleaner in it and it didn't work.
As far as sound goes, it didn't go all that loud at max volume, and the overall sound quality wasn't great but for the price it was decent enough and comparable to other similar priced products. It has pretty good bass and thats all that the average buyer of this type of stereo wants. The different sound modes aren't too bad but it would be a lot nicer if there was just a 6 band equalizer for better control of the sound.
I think I tried the tape deck once a while back and it didn't seem to work very good. The radio reception was decent but not great. I'm not a fan of any radio stations around here anyways. My sister listens to the radio a lot though so it was important for her.
The more recent versions of this minisystem are very similar in design so take this review into consideration if you are considering buying a newer Panasonic minisystem.
