| Sarv's Full Review: Sony CMT-EX1 CD Shelf System |
First off, this is one of the nicest mini stereo systems I've seen. Stylish, classy, and just right to fit in an office or in your bachelor pad. What's better than popping in some Barry White to serenade that special someone? Okay, maybe a lot, but I'm sure you see the point. But, honestly, this is about all the stereo has going for it.
What's good about this nice looking stereo?
Thats what's nice about it. Its nice to look at. Its sleek and sexy, unlike the big, powerful silver complete systems most people purchase these days. Even the highest rated system in the mini system category is more like a complete system than this. And maybe thats why I feel that this is only good for looks. It plays only mini system sound.
The other nice features I found are the text display below the CD, which can accept a CD-text encoded CD and will display the name of the song and album. Also, being able to see the CD spin like you can is very attractive, and it pops out of the top when you want to change discs. The buttons are lit up in cobalt blue, which is another nice touch.
Whats the problem here
The price. You pay quite a bit for this little beauty. When paying $250+ for a stereo, you'd expect to get a lot more. There is no subwoofer sound here, and that'd be something you'd possibly want in a stereo. I can see this will be mostly found in offices and in classier areas, so maybe a woofer isn't appropriate, but it would be nice to have that option, so you could at least turn it down.
Bottom Line
This is the perfect system for an officer, or a high traffic area where you'd like to turn heads and get people to talk. Its an icon piece more than anything else, showing you're mostly interested in impressing someone more than getting the most for your money. If you don't mind this, and still think it worth it, then pick it up. If I come by your place and see it...you can say I'll be still colored impressed. And if you have a Bose system in the other room...don't make me drool like that.
