* Reason For Purchase
My main reason for purchasing this stereo was because my old one just wasn't satisfactory anymore. It didn't have a 5 disc changer which is something I have found to be necessary. Also I needed a stereo that had 2 tape decks and could support more than 2 speakers. Now my reason for choosing this system was because it was affordable and I have a friend that has one and he loves it so after looking at his and him recommending it I ran right out and bought one!
* Features
The first feature I would like to talk about would be the 2 100 watt speakers. These speakers do come standard with the stereo although I bought 2 more 100watt speakers for surround sound the original speakers are great. They have a 7" and 5" woofer and a 3" tweeter. This combination provides excellent bass as well as midrange and treble. They are in a very elegant black and silver housing which matches pretty much any home decor and the woofer is bright yellow which I have found to be neat just to break up the monotony of normal home decor. Now for a bookshelf system these speakers aren't small they measure 10" wide, 11" deep and 20" tall which isn't exactly small but they make up for their size with their sound quality and stunning appearance. The next feature would be the 5 disc changer. It is a fairly ordinary system except for 2 different features on it and those are the Flash and Loop feature. The loop feature would be great if used at a party it quickly repeats what music was just played like a DJ running a record back. The Flash feature would also be great at a party or club because it makes the music "strobe" that's the only way I can describe it would be great if using a strobe light because you could use the two in conjunction for a dazzling affect. Next up if the Sync EQ. This feature when selected automatically analyzes the music you are listening to and adjusts all sound frequencies to the optimal levels with the exception of the bass level. Next would be the Sync Bass feature which does exactly what the Sync EQ except it manages your Bass level and adjusts it to the optimal level for the music you are listening to. Next up would be the SuperWoofer feature which when activated boosts power to the Woofers by a manufacturer claimed 300% which results in a drastic increase in bass which sounds truly great! Next is the SurroundSound feature which creates a symphony hall style sound which is truly 3D. I have purchased 2 additional speakers to provide additional 3d sound but it isn't necessary this feature works extremely well on its own with 2 speakers. On my lengthy list of features next would be the Effect function which allows you to select special effects that match the type of music you are listening to such as rock, pop, jazz, dance, salsa, movie, party and 4 personally programmed effects. all of the effects do indeed cause a very good improvement on the type of music they are imposed on! Next is the VideoInput which may sound odd but it allows you to connect your TV to the stereo so that you can use the stereo speakers for your TV's sound. This is very easy to do with only 3 wires provided your TV has the appropriate ports. To activate this function there is nothing special just press the "video" button and you are done. And last but definitely not least is the MD or MiniDisk input. Now MiniDiscs may not be popular yet but for those of you that have them probably wish you could play them in your CD player and with this system you can. In the back of the system itself there is a small port marked "MD" which you simply plug you "MD" plug into and select "MD" on the stereo and press play on your "MD" and you have instant music! That's all there is to is. Now as for as smaller features here is a list of things I didn't think were worth going into detail on... dual tape deck, AM/FM Tuner, Equalizer.
* Sound Quality
I have owned various sound systems from various manufacturers and this one I can honestly say has the best sound quality. The tweeters are never to high and the bass never to extreme also the surround sound functions with incredible effect. The speakers never have any distortion from too much bass even at Max volume. As for ever risk of blowing them I wouldn't worry I've played my music at full volume with bass at full and never had any damage tot he speakers and never ANY distortion! This stereo could honestly be compared to a concert hall. This system is truly amazing!
* Uses
I think this system would be great for your average person who wants nothing more than a great system but ALSO if you are like me and have setup your Playstation, dreamcast,TV,computer and N64 to your stereo for the added sound effect it will also serve you superbly. This is definitely a multi talented system. Also one other use I have seen with this system was in a local night club the used it in conjunction with a strobe light as I mentioned earlier during dance competitions. Its has virtually the ability to do anything you want it to do.
* Overall Satisfaction
Overall I would have to say this is one of the best purchases I have ever made. It has great sound,quality,features,uses and is just overall a wonderful system. If you decide to purchase this which I hope you do you will not be disappointed in any way this system is evidence of Sony's superior quality and the leading presence in the Sound industry. If I had the decision of buying this stereo over again I would buy 2 :) As always thanks for reading my opinion DYQ685!
