| autoamerican's Full Review: Sony LBT-W300 Shelf System |
Granted, SONY has made fantastic products in the past, I think that the time has come to move onto other manufacturers now.
It's a very small system, very compact, but it does have some big power. A 100-watt, two channel system, it does give you fairly good sound quality, but it's lacking in a lot of areas.
Number one, I'm used to 4-channel matrix sound. A two channel system is really what's standard as far as audio equipment, but for the price they're asking for this unit there should have been more to it.
The cassette decks sound great, so does the CD and radio tuner. Overall, it's pretty much just a generic sound system. I personally wouldn't buy another compact system after buying component systems for the last umpteen years, but I needed something compact to mount in the kitchen and this fits well with the speakers mounted up in the corners of the room (Again, a reason why I prefer 4-channel matrix).
My old 80-watt, 8ohms system from the late 70s sounds better than this system, though, giving much richer and fuller sound. I guess you get what you expect when you buy a compact system, however in this case you don't get what you paid for. The system doesn't have a proper pre-amp, which means hooking up an external turntable is out of the question, as well. For the price of this unit, you can buy a lower-end amp, turntable, 3-disc CD changer and dual cassette and still have enough left over for a pair of comparable speakekrs. I would say move on and pass this system by.
