We bought this Hitachi UX6430 UltraVision VCR about 1 year ago; we loved it - now we hate it! First the positives; the price was right and it included all the most sought after features that more expensive VCR's have; dynamic picture enhancer, auto clock set, VCRplus, Hi-Fi Stereo, Energy Star, High Quality 4 Head, Super Fast Rewind.
Some more detailed reasons why we loved this VCR: One in particular is the "index searching" feature. You can program the VCR to rewind 30 minutes or an hour of tape, to get to the beginning of a show you have taped. You will use this feature a lot if you use your VCR to tape and watch programs from TV. It also has a super rewind feature to rewind tapes very quickly. I also enjoy the slow motion feature, still and one frame at a time advance. This is great for watching sports videos. My brother is an extreme rider for Rollerblades and has been the stunt man in movies such as Mighty Ducks D3, we have fun doing slow motion, and freeze frame to see if you we can see his face.
This VCR also has front AV inputs so you can plug in a camera easily and other outside inputs such as a playstation or dreamcast.
Another nifty feature is the automatic clock calibration that automatically resets the clock if there is a power outage or the VCR is unplugged. The VCR picks up the correct time through the antenna/ or cable and resets it for you after you tell it what time zone you live in.
The remote that comes with this VCR is a Multi Brand Remote Control which can control your VCR and TV; now that simplifies everything.
The best feature of this VCR is it's Dynamic Picture Enhancer technology which greatly enhances the color, brightness and vividness of any movie you pop into your it. Most of the VCR's that have this feature are priced above $200.00, and lower end ones don't. If you go shopping for a VCR make sure you compare the picture quality of VCR's that have dynamic picture enhancer and those that don't; it really makes a big difference.
Now my disappointment. A couple of months ago the tapes started getting stuck in the the VCR. Not permanently stuck, but temporarily and enough to be a real pain. When we press eject, the tape comes out of the door but the tape is hooked on something in the back and we can't pull it out. When we wiggle the tape it loosens and the tape unhooks and we can't remove it from the VCR and wind it back up by hand. This is not good for our tapes as it crinkles them. We also worry about the day when a tape will be permanently stuck or snap or get eaten by the VCR. We got real busy and didn't do anything about it until the warranty had run out. When we finally took the VCR in for repairs we were told it will cost 95.00; hardly worth it for a VCR that cost 150.00, and you can buy them even cheaper now. So we didn't get it repaired, but are planning on buying a new VCR for Christmas and sticking this one in the kids room with some of their cheaper tapes.
Like I said this was an excellent VCR while it lasted. Too bad it didn't last even a year.
