| mcash257's Full Review: JVC HR-S3600 VCR |
I bought the JVC HR-S3600U about 6 months ago and I have loved it ever since. I have never had any problems with this VCR. It does exactly as it's supposed to. The express programming feature comes in handy when you don't have the VCR+ numbers handy. Express programming is a feature found on the remote that is four rocker type switches. One for the start time, one for the stop time, one for the date and one for the channels. All you have to do is press the program button [prog.] and then use the start, stop, date and channel buttons. You then set weather it is a one time recording, daily recording [8], or weekly recording [9] and weather you want it recorded in SP or EP mode. Then put it in timer mode and leave it alone. The whole process takes only 15 seconds and is completely painless. VCR+ is a system where you type in a number found in the TV Guide and it automatically records the program. In my area, the code isn't printed for every program, so I use the express programming. Either way, it is really quick and easy. Furthermore, It sets the clock and the date by itself if the power is out for more than 10 minutes. When you first plug it in it sets the time and date and it sets all the channels. If you have a DBS system, no need to worry. It has an IR blaster to control your DBS reciever and work with it. It has S-video in and out. It also has the capability to advance the tape frame by frame. A feature called movie advance is included. What it does is it scans your rental tape for the beginning of the real movie, so you don't have to watch ads. If you want to though, you can. I was torn between this model and a Panasonic model that is no longer available. The Panasonic included Commecial Advance, which skips over recorded commercials as well as movie advance, but did not have the frame by frame and slow motion capabilities of the JVC. It also has some small touches that others don't; like metal accented feet. Well, I've given my two cents. In short: get this if you want a great deal and a really good vcr. If you want to use it to dub from a camcorder, get the HR-S4600U it has more editing features as well as a front S-video input. The only reason I gave it a 4 is it's still an analog medium.
