I purchased this VCR from Mercata in a "PowerBuy" which offers a lower price as more and more people purchase the item featured. I've checked Mercata a few times, and this VCR is a favorite "PowerBuy" item. This VCR cost me around $134 using Mercata, with a special 20% discount that first time buyers can earn.
Now that you know where to buy the VCR, here's why you should consider this VCR over all others:
* Records SVHS quality on standard VHS tapes!
* VCR+ Programming; integration with my DirectTV unit and Cable box.
* S-VHS connections make regular VHS tapes look better too.
* Good lightweight remote control
* Automatic tracking / tape calibration, while you are watching...
* length of tape indicator that graphically shows how far you are on a tape.
* Remote control works with other brand TV's (my magnavox/sony product works)
What's wrong about this VCR? Well, it is the base model, and lacks a SVHS input on the front, so if you want to do some heavy duty video editing, you should be looking for a flying erase head on a more expensive VCR anyway. For the average home user, this VCR is a fine upgrade.
I've owned five VCR's, and this has the best one yet.
