| technologyrep's Full Review: Panasonic PV-9450 VHS VCR |
First of all, let me say that this is a review for the Panasonic PV-V4520 HiFi VCR, not the Panasonic PV-9450. There was no category for my VCR, but from the picture, the two VCRs look identical.
I purchased this VCR because my previous Panasonic VCR, which served me faithfully for 6 years, finally bit the dust. I could have repaired it, but for a few dollars more, I could purchase a new one. So I did.
MAIN FEATURES:
This is not a top-of-the-line VCR, but it is well worth the $100 I paid for it. First off, it is a 4-head HiFi VCR, so it supports Dolby Pro-Logic surround sound. There is one set of composite inputs on the rear along with a set of outputs; however, there is no set of inputs on the front.
NOT SO MAIN FEATURES:
This VCR is well equipped in my opinion. You can record one thing while watching something else. There is a tape counter bar that graphically shows you what viewing position your tape is currently in, even while you're rewinding it. This is useful if you want to know how far along the rewinding process is.
There are your basic trilingual functions that most people don't care about. It automatically adjusts for daylight savings time. There is a three speed commercial skip feature. The remote can control your VCR, TV and DSS/Cable box. Some of the main function buttons light up for nighttime use. There is a VCR locking feature, which can keep children from being able to utilize all but the eject and timer recording features. The VCR will automatically set up your channels and time. There is an auto shut-off feature. There is also a VCR+ feature that lets you autorecord programs by entering a corresponding number from your TV Guide.
PICTURE QUALITY:
So far this VCR is looking good. The picture is sharp, the colors are vibrant, I can definitely recommend this VCR. I have not seen any ghosting, tracking or sound problems. There is no S-Video connection, but this VCR is only $100. Hook up some Monster cable and you're good to go.
OVERALL:
This VCR looks nice. The front looks smooth and pleasing to the eye. There are not a plethora of buttons plaguing the front. The LED display is large and an easy to see bright green. It makes a great clock, too.
This is an awesome VCR for $100. If you need a new VCR, and don't need to do any complex editing, and don't want to fork out $300 for an SVHS, then this player is for you.
