Pros: Best SLP speed picture I've seen.
Cons: No reverse slo-mo.
The Bottom Line: An excellent VCR for most consumer applications, about the only thing it can't do is edit videos.

| vespanidus's Full Review: Panasonic PV-9451 VHS VCR |
This is a very good Panasonic VCR. Much better than my PV-VS4821 of the same brand. It has pretty much all the features you will need for everyday recording, time-shifting and playback. It has the best picture of any of my other standard VHS machines in SP, LP and SLP speeds. Freeze frame and slow motion are very clear and noise-free when playing tapes recorded in any of the 3 speeds, and there is very little noise in the visual scan picture (although LP tapes have slightly more noise, but not much).
Audio recording and playback on the VHS hi-fi and normal linear tracks sound great whether over the ordinary TV speaker or over a connected hi-fi system.
It has lots of convenient features including VCR plus, OTR mode, a universal remote, and the ability to add text captions to TV stations (you can identify each channel as ABC, NBC, CBS, WXXX, KXXX or whatever you want) and each individual recorded program. (You can enter the program name and other information when you set up a timer recording and it will show up on-screen on playback). It also has front A/V jacks for connecting a camcorder, video game or other accessory.
The VCR is also easy to use. The many menu options and functions are all acessible at the push of a button, and the manual timer programming and clock setting are pretty much intuitive. About the only features it lacks are reverse slow motion (slow motion mode only in forward) and an easy to find tape counter. It has an hour/min/sec counter, but it will show up only in the OSD, not on the LCD panel. The LCD panel only shows PLAY, REC, REW, or FF when the tape is running.
