| surferdude7's Full Review: Panasonic PV-9451 VHS VCR |
OK I am a true DVD fan 100%, they do not have an affordable recording DVD unit yet. So to record programming from your TV, you still have to rely on a VCR.
I picked up the Panasonic PV-9451 at a local store on sale for only $119. It is a hi-fi stereo VCR with four heads for better quality.
Unpacking and hooking up was easy. I turned it on and it brought up the setup menu, it asks simple things like the language you want, set the time in the clock and other simple questions like that. Then it takes a couple of minutes for it to scan all of your channels and lock them in place. Now we are ready to watch or record.
It has an illuminated universal remote control that can control other TV brands, several satellite receivers and different cable boxes. My TV was not listed so it doesn't work with mine. You have your typical slow motion, frame advance, freeze, VCR Plus+ and more.
It has Hi-Fi Stereo MTS/SAP this permits true, high fidelity stereo sound. It also accepts second audio programs. (SAP)
It is a nice looking VCR black with silver trim and a blue-lighted Multi-Function display.
It has only 90 days parts & labor but Panasonic has a name you can trust. I have owned a lot of Panasonic products and I am very satisfied with them.
Features
An illuminated universal remote control with VCR Plus+
It has 4-heads for great picture quality and it shows when you fast forward or freeze a frame, hardly no lines.
Built-in clock that will automatically keep your time in case of a power outage.
It has a Program Index Search, this will create an on-screen list of your recordings.
Recording and playback speeds are SP/LP/SLP.
On-screen display to help you easier on any changes.
Channel Caption this allows for you to label your channels with up to four characters.
A front-panel with A/V inputs this makes it easy to hook up your camcorder or another VCR.
The rear has stereo A/V outputs/inputs and RF output/input for your antenna or cable.
There is a one-minute skip that is good for bypassing commercials, one minute at a time, it can also be set up as two or three minutes.
Program End Search this lets you find the end of a recorded program, this is very handy and works well if you have several programs on one tape.
Languages to pick from are English, Spanish or French.
It is Energy Star compliant.
Overall
This is an excellent VCR for recording what you wish. It is easy to hookup and use.
The recordings are good quality in the SP mode, I haven't tried the other two settings.
I had to try out the VCR Plus+, I had to look in my local paper to get the numbers it needed and it all worked. I think I can set the time just as quickly as looking up the codes that is needed for VCR Plus+.
Well it's like I said, I am a true DVD fan 100%, VHS just does not have the quality with only 245 lines of resolution verses the DVD with 525 lines of resolution. Plus a DVD will keep forever if you take care of it, a VHS tape will lose color and picture quality over the years.
For a VCR, I highly recommend it if you have to buy a VCR.
