We bought this VCR because we like to watch network TV shows, and *don't* like to watch the commercials.
It has all the standard features you'd expect in a current VCR: the remote is good, and the audio and video quality is good. It is also fairly inexpensive; we paid less than $200 about over a year ago; I'm sure it's cheaper now. The onscreen programming can be slightly confusing: my wife doesn't like the sequence and says it is more difficult than it should be.
But the main selling point was the Commercial Advance feature: after taping, the VCR goes back through the tape and attempts to mark the commercials. Then, when you playback the tape for viewing, the VCR automatically fast forwards through the commercials.
I would say it is successful about 75% of the time. By successful, I mean that the entire commercial break is passed over. The other times, only a portion of the commercials get passed over, and you'll still have to manually fast forward to the end of the commercial break.
Even at 75%, though, it's still great. It makes it much quicker and easier to watch a network program. If you're in the market for a new VCR and you like to tape network, commercial-laden shows, then the Panasonic Omnivision PV-9662 is a good choice.
