| wyomingwapati's Full Review: Sharp VC-H984U VHS VCR |
After my ten-year old RCA vcr finally kicked the bucket, I decided to purchase another vcr. I knew I wanted a HI-FI vcr this next go around, but wasnt sure what brand. As is with anything I purchase price was a consideration. After doing quite a bit of research I leaned toward a JVC HI-FI vcr. But the cost considering the options I desired was over my $200 limit.
I stumbled across a Sharp Model VC-H984U model HI-FI vcr on ebay auction site one evening. Low and behold it had all the features I yearned for and for a cost well under $200. The only problem was the auction was to end in 3 minutes. I had no time to research this vcr! I took the big plunge and entered in a bid, which turned out to be the high bid.
A week later I had my new Sharp vcr. Hooking it up proved to be a snap. It was very self-explanatory when connecting the provided cables to my tv and stereo system. This particular Sharp model vcr has a feature called, "EZ SET UP". You simply:
1. Connect Cable to VCR.
2. Plug into AC.
3. Wait until completion of auto tuner setting,
and then press ENTER.
4. Select MENU on the remote & select Channel
Preset. Press SET, then choose:
(AIR) outdoor antenna or (CATV) Cable TV.
I have got to say, I really enjoy listening to my movies in stereo. Wow, what a difference it makes. The stereo I have the vcr hooked up to is nothing special. So, if you have a stereo system that is designed for watching movies and such than you are in for a treat. The picture quality from this vcr is high quality also.
Other neat features on this vcr:
1) Tamper Proof Feature: Press this button and all vcr modes are
"locked" thus preventing a young child from changing the
settings.
2) Super Fast Rewind and Fast Forward: This baby screams! (and yes
it slows down toward the end of the tape so it doesnt snap it)
3) Automatic Daylight Savings Time Feature: Automatically switches
4) Automatic Tape Tracking
5) Automatic Head Cleaning System
6) Remote Pager (press this and your "lost" remote beeps).
7) 4-video heads
Now for what I dont like about this VCR. Every time I want to record a movie with the timer, I have to get out the manual. There are too many steps to remember! So I have to leave my manual near the tv so it is handy at all times. And, the vcr looks cheap and cheesy. They skimped on the outside package. That is it for complaints though!
I recommend this vcr to anyone in search of a quality HI-FI vcr for under $200.
